As the holiday season approaches, many find themselves daydreaming about what their ideal vacation might be. It might be somewhere the climate is moderate, pleasant, with clear weather and clean sea… Anywhere far from the commotion of fast-paced city life, from all the noise and dense air, any such place has the potential to refill lost energy and build strength for times to come. Add into the mix all the vast natural beauties, all the lively flora and fauna, and you got yourself a vacation to truly remember. Here on Hvar, chances are you will find all you need!
This lovely villa is a perfect place for everyone who likes a vacation in which one can immerse with the culture of the locality, as it is a real Mediterranean house with some great content. It is located in the village of Svirce, a small peaceful village some 4km from the town of Jelsa, and the village is significant for its old 18th century church, old stone houses connected by little bridges and the inherent culture of olive oil and wine production. This villa fits into such an environment excellently, being stone-made, with green wooden window shades and a red tiled roof, as is the custom with old houses here. The terrace of the upper floor is supported by a number of stone pillars, and it provides enough shade for the lower ground-level terrace. In the back of the house, where the mentioned terraces are positioned, there is a vineyard as an addition to the property, which the owners use for the production of good quality wine. On the far side of the lower terrace there is a stone fireplace fit for barbecue, and the table on the terrace with its bench and a set of chairs is intended as a great spot for enjoying outdoor meals.
As you enter the villa, you encounter a welcoming, lovely atmosphere created by the rustic style of the interior. The floor is covered in light brown tiles, the walls either pure stone or rough white surfaces with stones protruding in some areas and around the windows, just like in the villas of older times. There is a variety of wooden elements, like the door and window frames, tables and chairs, bookshelves, cupboards, mirror and picture frames, but probably the most prominent and eye catching part is the ceiling with exposed, lacquered wooden beams and planks. All this wood, the light brown / cream of the floor and elegant ceiling facing lighting is combined to produce a romantic, warm feeling within the villa. Many other elements are there to give some soul to the old place, like the Singer sewing table, antique candleholders, some of the furniture and so on. The 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms lean more on the modern side, but still incorporate a lot of wood and are very comfortable. The kitchen is also designed in style, and fully equipped for all your daily meal preparation needs.
For grocery shopping, there is a shop in the village, but if you gave greater needs both in terms of shopping and content overall, you should head to one of the towns (like Jelsa, which is the closest one to the villa) where you will encounter rich history and architecture, fancy restaurants and bars, along with a variety of summertime activities like rent-a-boats, sailing, fishing, scuba diving, jet-ski, sports and much more. As for the exploration, we suggest visiting Paklinski Islands right next to Hvar, Šćedro island, the Old Town Plain (if you’re up for some wine tasting), Tvrdalj Castle (a fortified Renaissance-era building that was the summer home of poet Petar Hektorović) and Fortica (a hilltop fortress with picturesque views). For more information regarding exploration or accommodation, feel free to ask. We wish you a pleasant stay!
