Lovely Villa Rudine is a traditional Dalmatian stone house on the island of Hvar. It is an antiquity speaking for itself, built in the 15th century and renovated in 2008. As stone is one of the most durable building materials we know, it took minimal work in its renovation. The main goals were to advance the technology of the house and to refurnish the courtyard. The result was a fine building with an original Mediterranean soul, yet with all the necessities of modern-day life. The house alone has 120m2, while the adjacent courtyard with a garden extends to 300m2. The courtyard is a fine, amiable surface with a wide variety of flora within its garden and in other unpaved parts. Most of that flora that is characteristic for this part of the Adriatic is known for the fine fragrances they emit, so you are sure to enjoy the time spent in their vicinity. By the house there is a metal pergola covered in vines and thus creating a perfect place in the shade. Under the pergola, there is a nice wooden table with a set of chairs creating a large dining and lounge area. You can also find a rocking bench and a deck chair nearby, where you may relax in peace and quiet of the property.
Most of these old, even historical houses have been renovated to show the antiquity on the outside, while the interior is completely modern, all elegant and light colored, which is usually a good idea. The villa employs that philosophy in its design, though not straying too far into the modernity. However, there is a certain special feeling when you can feel history both on the inside and out, and a small house next to the villa is such a place. About 10 meters from the main stone house is this other house with a big indoor fireplace, fit for making a variety of Mediterranean meals, like grilled fish, baked octopus under the bell and much more. The interior is furnished to resemble the one preserved through decades, even centuries. Today, we call this sort of interior rustic. It is full of antiquities, it is made of that same old stone and it has a lot of wood within. All this wood brings warmth to the place, making it more comfortable, enjoyable and even home-like. The kitchen in the main house is, however, new and fully equipped for your daily needs in terms of meal prep.
As far as your shopping needs are concerned, the old town of Hvar, as well as bigger towns like Jelsa and Stari Grad have a sufficient amount of general stores, bakeries, liquor stores and marketplaces. Apart from all the restaurants, bars and night clubs, there is an abundance of summertime options available like rent-a-boat, jet-ski, sailing, diving and guided tours, and all kinds of festivals are often held in town. As for the exploration, we suggest visiting Paklinski Islands right next to Hvar, Šćedro island, the Old Town Plain (if you’re up for some wine tasting), Tvrdalj Castle (a fortified Renaissance-era building that was the summer home of poet Petar Hektorović) and Fortica (a hilltop fortress with picturesque views).
