There is something inherently alluring about nature. Most of us have felt, at one point or another, a specific sort of feeling that makes us want to wander into a forest, walk through a lavender field or dive beneath the surface of the azure blue sea. We make nature the greatest ally of our souls, and sometimes it is the only thing which can bring peace to our minds. And so, for our vacation opportunity, we try to pick places within these riches of life. Such a place is Villa Damir near Prevlaka, also known as the southernmost point of Croatia. It is a beautiful, narrow peninsula filled with lush flora and various fauna, boasting the most sunny days in the whole country. The colors that prevail are green of the plants, blue of the sea and sky, and red of the Mediterranean villas.
Villa Damir is situated on the waterfront of a bay of Molunat, a fishing village 10km north from Prevlaka. It is a gorgeous place in every way, but the obvious one is in its exterior design. It is a palace inspired by the 15th and 16th century Ragusa (old Dubrovnik Republic) villas, with all its arched colonnades, balustrade fences, plenty of plants around the property and the use of stone as the main construction material of the villa. The outer terrace and the upper terraces / balconies all provide excellent views of the bay and the opposite coast. The courtyard of the villa is very spacious and it has a lot of content, most notably the lovely round swimming pool. Close to the pool you will find a number of sun beds where you can enjoy some time under the sun, while the chairs and small tables create an opportunity to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while gazing towards the sea. As you descend from the outer terrace you find yourself atop a concrete platform enclosed by stone walls of the villa’s courtyard – this is your own private beach, equipped with more sun beds. After going for a swim in the clear sea, you can take a walk through the lush Mediterranean garden right next to the villa, filled with a variety of local plants like rosemary, lavender, palms and such. An outdoor fireplace is located next to the garden, fit for making barbecue. The interior of the villa is a sight to behold – all of the rooms are filled with antique furniture, perfectly fitting to the theme of the place. You will find comfortable sofas, beds covered with baldachins, vintage wooden tables, cupboard, chairs and even the lamps that help create a nice, romantic atmosphere in the evening. Even though designed in traditional fashion, most of these elements are brand new and no comfort is sacrificed to invoke a historical look. The kitchen, as well as the bedrooms and en suite bathrooms (4), are fully equipped for your daily needs. One specific part of the villa that should be mentioned is its old school tavern. Here is a smaller, simple kitchen and a dining area surrounded by stone and brick, covered by a wooden roof with exposed beams and planks. A nice decorated fireplace completes the gorgeous picture, making the tavern a perfect spot to enjoy at least some of your time. Villa Damir is air conditioned, with internet access (wifi) and pet friendly. Maid service is available on request.
You can do all the grocery shopping in Molunat, along with enjoying domestic cuisine in a fine restaurant. There is a post office, a slipway with adjacent berths, a shop offering home-grown fruit and vegetables, two coffee shops, a driving club and a fishing cooperative. The name of the village comes from the ancient Greek name for port (molos), referring to the ancient ports of Mali and Veliki Molunat which provided protection from bad weather. There are many traces of various archaelogical sites on the sea floor, on the mainland, on its walls and fortifications. The Molunat area has an ecologically preserved nature ecosystem with numerous species of mediterranean medicinal herbs. Its indented coastline is full of coves around the peninsula, the two islets with shallow and clear sea with plenty of fish, making it an excellent place to explore. Molunat is 40km away from Dubrovnik and 20km from the airport and from Cavtat. For more information, feel free to ask!
