This gorgeous old villa was built upon a rock and positioned only a 5min walk from the Old Town of Dubrovnik. Its location alone provides many advantages, and probably the most important one is the fantastic view of the town and its ancient walls, the island Lokrum and the open sea. The second advantage is its relative isolation. Being situated a bit off the very center, the surroundings of the property are serene and quiet, making it possible to enjoy your vacation in peace, away from all the noise and hustle. With gorgeous nature of the locality, crystal clear Adriatic sea and a historical giant to explore, what more could you wish for during your holiday?
The core of the core of this historic villa is the old chapel of St. Lazarus from the 13th century, while the rest of it, according to the Conservation Department, dates back from the 17th and 18th century. Sir Arthur Evans, a famous British archaeologist lived in this house during his stay in Dubrovnik from 1875 and 1882. He is known to have discovered the remains of the ancient civilization on Crete. All of these facts make the villa a reminder of the times past, infusing soul through the tales of old centuries, the weight of which can be felt. This former summer residence of great historic and cultural importance has been renovated to meet the modern day living standards, tastefully blending tradition with technology and comfort, without sacrificing any of the aesthetics. Villa Agave is a large, 270m2 house with exclusively designed interior and another 400m2 of carefully designed exterior. The villa’s five lovely terraces come equipped with furniture and offer amazing views of the surrounding area. On the ground floor, the largest terrace opens to show the magnificent view of the old town, and it houses a small pool. One of the smaller terraces was a whirlpool tub in the back, which you are sure to enjoy. There are three accommodation units within the villa, all of them containing designer made furniture, which is very elegant and properly positioned to make the best use of space. The villa also has a VIP lounge, the mentioned five terraces, a spacious and elegant living room, 3 luxurious bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and a lovely kitchen. Especially attractive is the old chapel with details from a distant past, rustic stone walls, and skillfully incorporated modernist and Mediterranean details. The chapel was intended for rest and meditation. The house was destroyed in WWII, abandoned and without a roof until 1973. It was later renovated by famous Croatian painter Milovan Stanić who painted the fresco that still adorns Vila Agave’s living room wall. Another living room wall is adorned by a work of a famous Dubrovnik author Romana Milutin Fabris. Other walls of the villa are also decorated with precious art of Croatian and international authors from Štrok family private art collection.
Dubrovnik is claimed to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, mostly due to its perfectly preserved centuries old architecture, rich history, warm southern climate, emerald green and dark blue sea spilling into numerous bays and coves, with steep reefs decorated with lush Mediterranean and subtropical flora. The average summer sea temperature is about 21°C. The swimming season in the sea begins as early as April, sometimes even earlier, and lasts until late October. The City of Dubrovnik is under UNESCO protection due to its long history and heritage – the real origin of the city is unclear, but it certainly is an old city, persevering on its stony cliffs for at least 14 centuries. There is a lot of things to do and explore within the city limits, and these are some of them: you can enjoy dramatic views of the sea and the cliffs by taking a walks along the defensive walls of the city, visit the monastery on an island of Lokrum 600m from the city (by ferry or kayak), enjoy the fresh air on the summit of Srđ, a round hill to which you can reach by foot or with an aerial cablecar and Lovrijenac – a 16th century seaside fortress built along a 37 meter rock face and currently hosting theatrical performances. We wish you a pleasant stay!
